I had a pretty big Facebook page that was getting mightily popular. It’s been running nearly ten years without a glitch. My lovely PA was doing a stellar job of making it a treasure trove of beautiful British countryside, stunning historical gowns, and all things historical romance related. Unfortunately, after an error and a fight to get it back up and running, Facebook decided to unpublish it then delete it permanately.
Initially, it was genuinely a glitch. I had played with the settings in an attempt to view something and Facebook switched my page straight to unpublished. I was unable to click the button to lodge an appeal so went through their help back and forth for several months while they tried to figure out what had happened. It was exhausting trying to get an answer and a timely response and ultimately, they came back to me saying my page would stay unpublished.
In typical Facebook style, they refused to give me a reason or the ability to appeal before it was deleted completely apart from some vague comment about it going against community standards. I wonder what it was about countryside and pretty dresses they didn’t like?
Anyway, I have chosen not to resurrect the page. I’m tired after all the palaver and finding Facebook an increasingly toxic environment. I love my friends on there but I removed the app from my phone ages ago so I could avoid the mind-suck that is the newsfeed. However, I AM still using my fan group and we’re back to posting pretty pictures but if you wonder where I’ve gone page-wise, now you know.
If you do want to join me there, you can find the group here.
I probably sound salty and I am a little 😉 but mostly I’m tired of it being such a negative space when I remember the heady days of it being fun to connect with people with no fear of misinformation or Facebook breathing down your neck. So if you want pretty things, do join my group. If not you, can also find me on Instagram for more personal stuff!
