I thought I’d share with you today my top 5 castles in Scotland. Most people know of Eilean Donan but there are some other amazing castles that if you are ever in Scotland, you must visit!
1. Hermitage Castle
There’s something about this castle that fills me with awe. Maybe it’s the barren setting or how imposing it is. Maybe it’s the castle’s gruesome history. Many murders and plots took place here…

Cold and dreich day in Canada today too. Woke up to a blizzard and sticking close to home. Perfect day for a blog hop. Someday hope to visit Scotland and see the castles for myself. Top of my bucket list

Dunnottar Castle is the one I like the most! love them all, though. Where i grew up near, there is a castle, Chateau Laroche; and every brick was hand made by Harry Delos Andrews to build the castle. I always loved visiting it.

Wow! I love castles and I love the photo 2. Caerlaverock Castle – I can just imagine living there. I've been across seas once – went to Canterbury England for 6 weeks to study Freud when in college but while there I did some sight seeing at some castles and boy what an experience. I wish I would of had some extra funds to travel more north so I could of visited Scottland, For now though, I can see it described within the books. even though they had hard times, with war and survival, their lives were still much simpler than what we live in today, I'd give anything to go back in time to live there.

I think I like 5. St Andrews Castle the best it's next to the sea, imagine waking up to that view every morning.

I forgot to mention my favorite: The first one, Hermitage. You're right, it is freaky awesome! I visited the British Isles in 1986 and so knew that most castles were drafty and dreary–very imposing structures. It is hard for me to imagine living in one. Going up all those narrow, winding stairways with water, food, laundry, etc. A tough life I believe.

How did I go to St Andrews and miss a castle?? Course I was on a college trip but still. Least now I have something else to look forward to whenever I go back to St Andrews besides their fabulous beach (and getting my dad more St Andrews gold swag).

I know Stirling Castle best as I went to Uni there and I think it's one of the prettiest as it's perched on a cliff but Edinburgh is my fave because of the history. Great post! Now I want to go home again – despite the dreadful weather!

I like Stirling Castle and Edinburgh is very imposing the way it towers over the city. Hermitage Castle has lovely square angles. I hadn't heard of this one before.
We visited Cawdor Castle this summer and I was taken with the back gardens
All done, thanks for the chance xx
